The main business income of enterprises producing plastic products in China increased from ¥1,558.374 billion in 2011 to ¥1,907.748 billion in 2019, with a compound annual growth rate of 2.6%. These numbers are expected to continue increasing due to several factors, such as the expanding scope of plastic product uses, increase in quality of manufacturing, added customizability, and advancements in making products more lightweight.

In 2019, rubber and plastic products accounted for 2.4% of revenue for Chinese industrial enterprises. The industry ranked 14th overall, beating out many of the country’s major industries, like coal mining, washing, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.

Chinese output of plastic products increased from 54.744 million tons in 2011 to 81.842 million tons in 2019, a compound annual growth rate of 5.2% in 9 years. This has helped the plastic products industry grow into its own complete industrial system, equipped to handle raw material procurement, product manufacturing, and sales and marketing.

Decades of research and development have firmly established the plastic products industry, allowing plastic goods to be integrated into countless fields, thus improving its market share. And as new materials continue to be developed, the usefulness of plastics continues to grow.

Both foreign and domestic competition has also been increasing, further catalyzing industry growth. The steady influx of plastic manufacturers has spurred technological advancements throughout the industry. Competition in areas such as plastic material property development, manufacturing equipment production, and final product production has generated widespread improvements in the industry. These improvements have led to reduced production costs and ultimately to further increasing the plastic industry’s market share.

Another emerging trend is the focus on environmentalism. Increasing environmental protection requirements are inspiring manufacturers to shift their focus toward more sustainable materials. As the industry continues to develop so does the need for more environmentally friendly materials.

The plastic product industry is poised to continue growing into the future, and this growth will spark new innovations in plastic technology and manufacturing methods. As the industry continues to advance, so will the importance of sustainable production.
