Answer: Flaking, or delamination, causes an unattractive surface appearance, but it can also indicate more serious mechanical issues with the part. Flaking can be caused by using the wrong additive, using an incorrect amount of an additive, or mixing incompatible materials together. Flaking may also be caused by the screw’s rotation speed. All of these factors must be appropriately adjusted in order to produce quality parts. Popcocon closely monitors all processes and formulas involving plastic pellets to ensure the materials have no impurities and produce parts with the proper surface finish.
